As a military “brat” the significance of Memo

As a military “brat” the significance of Memorial Day is never lost on me. I pray that I’m doing a good enough job to help ensure my children understand the importance as well. My father served and was lucky enough to retire after a full career in the Navy. My youngest brother currently serves in the Marine Corp and has just returned home safely to his family after one of several deployments. Other family members have also served and are fortunate enough to be celebrating today with their friends and loved ones. Not all have been so lucky. Thank you, to all who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice. 🇺🇸❤️

Emma. Her name is derived from the Old German for “whole” or “universal”. And this girl is just that. She is her own person. She knows exactly what she likes/dislikes. Her ability to show compassion and empathy for others knows no bounds. She’s especially gifted with animals and young children. Emma, you are very special to us. We wish you a happy birthday but are so happy to have you in our circle all of the days. Hope you’ve enjoyed your fun-filled weekend. We will see you soon!

Everybody’s quarantine has looked different and

Everybody’s quarantine has looked different and that’s okay. It’s so hard not to compare ourselves to what everyone else is doing. Comparing ourselves to others robs us of our own joy. Our quarantine has been full of FaceTime, writing letters, swimming, video games, nights by the fire pit, distance learning and lots of movie nights....just to name a few things. I’m starting to feel a shift. Maybe it’s because the kids’ school year is coming to a close. I don’t know. But I do know this chapter has taught my family quite a bit about each other. Good and not-so-good. And that’s just it. Progress. Growth. Experiences... Even if most of it is within the walls of our own home. We’ve been together and happy (for the most part) and healthy. There is so much GOOD in that.

This right here. We are all MOMS. Wishing us all a very Happy Mother’s Day. May you be with those whom you love the most and who love you. May you be spoiled and hugged. May you be blessed and feel special especially in the smallest and most ordinary of ways.

I’m kind of loving silhouettes right now. This is my youngest boy and our dog waving at our neighbors on their evening walk. This is a pretty good representation of what our social distancing has looked like with friends and family. But I have to say that even chatting from across the street or finding some way to connect has been so important for me and my kids. We are writing letters, doing some FaceTime game nights, lots of walks and trading puzzles and books with friends. I’d love to hear some of the things you all are doing to stay connected.

Day 49 of our Quarantine. It feels like April flew

Day 49 of our Quarantine. It feels like April flew by. Where did it go? All 30 days of April were spent at the same place. Doing a lot of the same things with the same people. Feels a little like Groundhog Day. Kamee June and I challenged our Mammarazzi attendees to get out their cameras and shoot. Shoot anything and everything. Find the EXTRAORDINARY in the ordinary. Well, I am holding myself accountable too. And since my personality tends to be the glass-half-full kinda gal, I am looking for all the good in our current situation. One of the things I appreciate right now is the music being played in my house. Some days it’s my oldest playing his trumpet. Other days it’s my daughter playing her clarinet. And on the weekends, we usually have Amazon music blasting through the house. But I love it. Makes my ears happy and it’s something I am grateful for right now.

Monday and Tuesday are our busiest days with our distance learning. All 3 kiddos have several different online classes - some at different times. Some at the same time. The afternoons are usually “free time” but my girl has her dance classes. Our living furniture gets pushed out of the way and she dances for hours. Thankful she has these dance teachers and friends who make her feel connected and loved. Makes my momma heart happy to see her committed to doing what she loves do, too.

Weekend vibes. Quarantine style. Lots of gratitude. Grateful for these beautiful days full of sunshine and our refreshing pool that we can cool off in. Some of my fondest memories of my childhood are taking a night swim with friends. Here’s to hoping we can swim with our friends soon. Until then,we will soak up every ounce of this goodness that we can and making the best of each day. Hoping our kiddos look back fondly on these memories too.
